Our story

More than a replica

Katana Expert started with a simple frustration: the sword from our favorite anime or game was either a plastic toy or a collector piece out of reach.

So we set out to make the real thing. Real steel, forged by hand, full tang, finished with the details fans actually notice, at a price a fan can afford.

Today, more than 40,000 collectors, cosplayers and martial artists have a Katana Expert blade at home.

Longquan, the city of swords

Where it all begins

Longquan, the city of swords

Our blades are forged in partner workshops in Longquan, in the mountains of Zhejiang province.

Swords have been made here for more than 2,000 years. Legend says the master smith Ou Yezi forged his first blades here, drawn by the iron in the hills and the clear water of the springs.

That know-how is still passed down from one generation to the next. It is what lets us offer hand-forged katanas without the price of a museum piece.

From fire to your wall

How your katana is made

Every blade goes through the same five hands-on steps before it leaves the workshop.

  1. Forging 01

    Forging

The steel is heated in the charcoal fire and shaped under the hammer, strike after strike.

  2. Heat treatment 02

    Heat treatment

The blade is heated and quenched in water to harden the edge while keeping the spine flexible.

  3. Polishing 03

    Polishing

Stone after stone, the steel is polished until it shines and the blade line appears.

  4. Fittings & wrap 04

    Fittings & wrap

Guard, collar and handle are fitted by hand, then the handle is wrapped in its cord.

  5. Final check 05

    Final check

Each katana is inspected for balance, finish and fit before it is packed.
